at Casa Brina, Via Piave, 29, Cocconato
Concerto-Degustazione
featuring The Reykjavik Wind Quintet
" SUONI
DAL FREDDO PER VINI BIANCHI "
|
Music of
contemporary and classical Scandinavian composers (and others) to accompany a new
generation of Piedmontese white wines produced by Bava.
According to the
"Bava theory of taste and sound" there is a special affinity between white wines and sounds produced by
wind instruments, which is probably especially true with Nordic music. This will be a rare
opportunity to verify their compatibility thanks to the very high quality of both the musicians and the wines.
Wines for tasting
during the interval:
Gavi di Gavi Doc Cor de Chasse,
vintage 1997.
A great classic, a crescendo of harmony and balance.
Thou Bianc Piemonte
Chardonnay Doc, 1997.
A new contemporary rich wine, more than just allegro.
Alteserre Monferrato Doc,
vintage 1996.
The "superbianco", an oustanding, innovative world class wine, powerful
and smooth, bring out the oboe...
Bass Tuba Moscato d'Asti
Docg, 1997.
Flowers and aromas, probably more Mediterranean than Nordic, definetely allegro
molto. La festa in the sunny courtyard of the Bava cellars.
The Reykjavik Wind Quintet:
Bernharšur Wilkinson,
flute
Daši Kolbeinsson, oboe
Einar Jóhannesson,
clarinet
Joseph Ognibene, horn

The Reykjavik Wind Quintet is based
in the world“s northernmost capital, in the land of Vikings, volcanoes, glaciers, and the midnight sun. Established in
1981 by its present members, all key players in the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the quintet has made its reputation both at home
and abroad.
Travelling extensively throughout
Europe, Australia and North America, they have appeared in a wide variety of venues: from the Carnegie and the
Wigmore Halls to Faroese fishing villages and California wine country. Recent activities
include the 1997 tours of Scotland, England and Australia, where they appeared at the Sydney Spring Festival.
The RWQ has made several CDs,
including two recent releases on the CHANDOS label (American and French music; a third album with Nordic
selections is in preparation)
They have also recorded for the
national broadcasting services
of Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Britain (BBC) and of course Iceland. Their repertoire varies
widely in style from classical works to modern, with an emphasis on Scandinavian music.
Many composers have written new music for the group, as well as arrangements of
traditional Icelandic folk music, which
they invariably include in their programmes.
This will be their first concert in
Italy.
