2001
This is one of Piedmont's "historic" novello wines, made by the Bava family for the last 20 years and with its own recognisable and established character.
Area of production: |
Since 1995, thanks to new norms in DOC Monferrato regulations,
the wine will be styled "Primovino Monferrato DOC Novello".
In fact, the grapes come from excellent hillside vineyard sites
in the Lower and Upper Monferrato. Vinification takes place
at the cellars in Cocconato d'Asti.
Varietals:
Freisa and Dolcetto with complete carbonic maceration
Vinification: |
The two grape varieties come from two different vineyards and are vinified separately.
Picking is by hand and in small containers so as to ensure the selection of the best grapes.
The smallest and healthiest grapes are given carbonic maceration, the type of natural
fermentation that has the advantage of modifying the grape's acidity and creating the natural
characteristics of a novello. The two wines are assembled at the finish of fermentation and
Primovino is then submitted for approval by the tasting panel of the Monferrato Novello DOC commission.

Tasting Notes: |
Bright, lively, clear, ruby red colour with the violet reflections of youth.
A polished wine without any hint of sparkle. Intensely vinous on the nose;
just swirl the glass to enhance the smell of fresh berry fruit. Red cherries
and kitchen herbs are the other aromas that come with further nosing until finally
there's the smell of the grapes themselves. Great sense of freshness on the palate.
Very attractive and up-front, showing the clean tastes of autumn fruit, good
intensity and length. Best drunk before the summer following its vintage
(in fact, it's always kept well as a wine).
