Libera
Barbera Asti Doc

Libera has been released in 2001 to complete the broad range of the Bava's Barberas.
It's a very versatile wine: it's elegant and velvety, rich of character and body.
Libera (free in Italian) is not limited by constraints and schemes. It was born to be liked and appreciated, without losing the intrinsic characteristics of its varietal.

Area/Vineyard: vineyards in Cascina PianoAlto di Crena in Agliano Terme. Libera comes from young vines of Cascina PianoAlto di Crena.

Grapes: 100% Barbera.

Alcohol: 13.5% vol.

Vinification: the bunches are hand-picked and put in small 20 kg boxes. At the winery, they are de-stemmed and pressed the same day to avoid oxidation. Contact with skins is in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and it is prolonged to obtain the best maceration possible, essential for the wine characteristics. Afterwards, it is fermented in stainless steel with selected yeasts. The wine remains in wood for 12 months, and continue its fining in the bottle.

Characteristics: intense, almost impenetrable deep red, with ruby and violet nuances. The nose is powerful, rich, almost balsamic, with hints of wild plums, cherry jam, pepper and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is full and round, with a degree of alcohol and acidity which discretely optimize the sweet notes of red fruit, eucalyptus and mint.

Recommended with: we think it's a limitation to suggest food pairings with this wine, since it goes really well with any national and international recipes with pasta, red meat and cheeses.

Best Temperature: variable, depending on personal taste and the age of the wine (from 16° to 18° C).

Label: PianoAlto weather-vane.

Bottle: it is a traditional Burgundy bottle. Sold in 12 bottles cases.

First released: April 2001
