Cascina Scarrone, home the Barolo Scarrone vineyard
Our Barolo Scarrone is a wine grown in the heart of the high quality Scarrone vineyard in Castiglione Falletto: here, in the 1980s, we renovated a beautiful, colourful farmhouse whose wine cellars were developed for the production and ageing of our Barolo, with large 5300 litre wooden vats where the fermentation takes place.
The grapes for the Barolo Scarrone come exclusively from five hectares (12 acres) of vineyards surrounding the farmhouse, located at an altitude of approximately 300 metres.
The ripening of the grapes on this hill is favoured by the good exposure to sunlight that it receives in the morning, favouring perfect maturation even in the sunniest of years. The white soil, where the vineyard is situated, is rich in marl, interspersed with sand as in the best vineyards of the Langa region, resulting in elegant, well-balanced wines that age very well.
The result is an ample and complex wine, endowed with great elegance starting with its marked garnet colour and its bouquet of tobacco, roses and violets that do not fail to refine further with time.
On the full palate one finds the consistent but sweet tannins, characteristic of the Castiglione vineyard and Scarrone in particular.
While waiting for the 2020 vintage to be ready to drink, you can savour the 2017 vintage.
