August 10th: An old saying in Piedmontese goes, “a San Lurens l’uva a tens….” (on San Lorenzo’s day, the grapes start to colour…).
In recent years, the period of veraison (the change in colour of the berries) has advanced a few days earlier than the dialectal saying.
It is an important moment when the berries start accumulating sugars. In red grapes, anthocyanins appear, making the transition from green to red very evident, indicating the approach of the harvest date.
