Relais Bianc Particulier

THE WHITE SOIL OF COCCONATO

The Bava family is truly passionate about Sauvignon Blanc. Since the early 2000s, they have been dedicated to searching for the best locations within the Cocconato area to plant this grape variety. Among international grape varieties, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most demanding, prefers cooler hilly terrains, such as those found in much of the Piedmontese hilly region. This variety expresses its best qualities and the true character of the land only in specific soils and exposures.

At Bricco della Pieve, situated at mid-hill altitude, a prime plot has been identified with its characteristic white, calcareous soils, ideal for producing excellent whites. In special vintages, like the 2019 harvest, these vineyards can produce very refined and long-lived whites. This exclusive version of Relais Bianc represents the elevation of Sauvignon Blanc to a new level of complexity and maturity, demonstrating how a grape variety can evolve and reach an unprecedented depth.

WINEMAKING

The gentle pressing and cold maceration of the grapes in an oxygen-protected atmosphere precede the slow fermentation of the must, which is partially clarified at low temperature overnight before fermentation begins. The wine is aged “sur lie” for 10 months in steel tanks.

Then, five years of ageing in the bottle for this particular vintage.

WINE

The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc shows unique characteristics, with an expressive potential that differs from the usual ready-to-drink style. As a result, it was decided to preserve this vintage for a long bottle aging, giving birth to Relais Bianc Particulier, an exclusive evolution that elevates Sauvignon Blanc to a new level of complexity and maturity. On the nose, elegant citrus notes of grapefruit are evident, distinguished by more intense hints of sage and thyme, along with a balsamic and mineral touch. On the palate, it remains elegant and savory, with good acidity and body, offering great smoothness and a persistent finish.
