Visit Nizza Monferrato: What to Do and What to See
The historic center of Nizza Monferrato revolves around two main areas: Piazza Garibaldi, which features the Foro Boario, and Piazza Martiri di Alessandria, known for its arcades and old store signs.
But the city is filled almost everywhere with beautiful buildings and monuments: Palazzo De Benedetti, Palazzo Baronale Crova, and the Duomo are “must-see destinations” during a walk through the center of Nizza Monferrato.
There are plenty of museums to visit that showcase the area’s strong food and wine culture, such as the Multimedia Museum of Taste, the Bersano Museum, a landmark among Piedmont’s wine museums, and the Sug@R(T)_house, dedicated to the world of sugar by the famous Pinin Pero.
NIZZA DOCG: excellence worth celebrating
Nizza Monferrato is surrounded by beautiful hills, mainly covered with Barbera vines.
From this vine comes NIZZA DOCG, one of Italy’s youngest controlled and guaranteed designations of origin.
The NIZZA DOCG, first obtained from the 2014 harvest, is the result of decades of hard work by producers who have given a unique identity to the Barbera grape grown in this region. It’s a well-deserved reward for their efforts.
This very young DOCG debuted on the market on 1 July 2016. In our cellar, it finds expression in Pianoalto, a wine with an intense, almost violet, ruby red color, endowed with an intense and complex bouquet in which fruity sensations and a distinct spicy component of pepper and tobacco prevail.
It is a harmonious and velvety wine to which ageing in wood lends a balance and majesty that heralds a marked longevity.
For those who would like to take an unforgettable photo to associate with the taste of NIZZA DOCG, the best advice is to go to Castelnuovo Belbo and climb the Giant Bench No. 87, better known as the Big Bench of NIZZA!
Agliano Terme: a charming village a stone’s throw from Nizza Monferrato
Agliano Terme is a charming village in the Monferrato hills, less than 10 km from Nizza.
A walk through the town center can only start from the central square, overlooked by the 17th-century church of San Giacomo Maggiore, and continue towards Frazione Molizzo, where you can admire the Sanctuary of the Annunciation.
The thermal springs are one of the top draws for tourists and locals. The water from these springs has therapeutic properties that can aid in respiratory issues and fight against gastrointestinal inflammation.
In addition to falling in love with the view, families can enjoy a picnic lunch in the designated area and have fun playing hopscotch or giant chess boards.
Tenuta Pianoalto: a walk through our vine rows
For those who love to immerse themselves in wine-growing nature, walking to Pianoalto is almost a must. In our most scenic property, on the crest of the sun-kissed hill, some of our most representative wines are born.
From here, you can enjoy a privileged view of all of Agliano Terme and its surroundings and admire the beauty of the colors of the vineyards gathered around the farmhouse.
On your return, we invite you to visit our historical wine cellar in Cocconato: a place where you can delve into more than a century of the Bava winery’s history and our territory’s wine vocation.
