The Bava family has chosen Vinitaly 2026<\/strong> to unveil Sullav\u00eca 2024<\/strong><\/em>, the first vintage of their Piemonte DOC Pinot Noir<\/em> from a single vineyard.<\/p>\n

This wine stems from personal passion and a desire to engage with this international grape variety by offering a distinctive interpretation in pursuit of authenticity: no oak, no interpretative filters – only the character of the grape and the strength of place guiding its voice.<\/p>\n

The name Sullav\u00eca<\/em> is a direct evocation: the \u201cvia\u201d is the road leading from Agliano to Crena, dividing the Bava vineyards in Pianoalto. On the right lie the rows of Barbera; on the left begin those of Pinot Noir.<\/p>\n

The vineyard: Bricco Roche, Agliano<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The decision to plant Pinot Noir on the slope rising toward Bricco Roche in Agliano is rooted primarily in clear pedoclimatic suitability: calcareous, well-drained soils capable of expressing a marked and recognizable character in the grape, with solid structure, defined texture, and a precise aromatic profile – aligned with the finest expressions from Italy\u2019s cooler areas in terms of elegance and tension.<\/p>\n

This further confirms the ability of this cru to interpret Pinot Noir with an authentic and coherent personality.<\/p>\n

Yet the choice was also driven by a deeply felt emotion, as Paolo Bava<\/strong>, winemaker and owner together with his family of the historic estate, explains:
\u201cA profound respect for the old Barbera vineyard that welcomed us from the very beginning, when we arrived in Pianoalto in the 1990s. A bond that led us to wait patiently, allowing time itself to indicate the right moment to establish a new planting on this land.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The wine: fruit, density, freshness<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sullav\u00eca<\/strong><\/em> is a contemporary wine<\/strong> built around drinkability and coherence. Aged exclusively in stainless steel, with no oak contact, it preserves the integrity of Pinot Noir\u2019s fruit and freshness while developing structure and density.<\/p>\n

It is harmonious: what the nose promises, the palate delivers – with continuity and momentum.<\/p>\n

Stainless steel maceration enhances varietal purity and color vibrancy, resulting in a bright, lively red with a dynamic character. It is an everyday wine that does not compromise on personality or depth and can also be served at a slightly cooler temperature.<\/p>\n

The label<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Sullav\u00eca<\/em> label draws inspiration from an artwork displayed in the Bava winery: Border Series 136 3\u20134<\/em> by Pedro Pires (metal sculpture). Here, the work is rendered in a stylized form, in a distinctive red that echoes the iconic \u201ccasot\u201d in the vineyard.<\/p>\n
