Even the Relais Bianc Piemonte DOC Sauvignon, Thou Bianc Piemonte DOC Chardonnay, Cor de Chasse Gavi DOCG from the Municipality of Gavi, Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, and Rosingana Piemonte DOC Albarossa follow the success of the restyling of Libera, Ruché, and Serre di San Pietro Bava, initiated in spring.
The new labels of the wines from the Piedmontese company reflect a significant evolution in the brand’s image, while maintaining the elegance and traditional value that have always characterized Bava wines.
The renewed graphics were designed to reflect the quality and uniqueness of the wines, while also highlighting the focus on sustainability and history, in addition to the strong sense of innovation that the company continues to express.
A meticulous stylistic research enhances the lines and colors of Monferrato and Langa among rows of vines symbolized by a play of parallel lines on the capsules, vineyard colors in different seasons distinguishing each wine, and a stylized depiction characteristic of the individual vineyards from which the grapes originate as a backdrop.
In each bottle, a different element is emphasized, encapsulating the essence of the wine itself and tracing from the label the beginning of a unique and distinctive story.
Relais Bianc Piemonte DOC Sauvignon 2023
In Cocconato, the large banks of clay and yellow sands in much of the Asti province give way to banks of gypsum and calcareous soil with white and soft marl, which disintegrate in the sun, making the soil light-colored. These lands are traditionally reserved for red grape vineyards because they produce wines of great strength and elegance. It was thus surprising to discover that here white wines become savory, intense, very aromatic, and long-lasting. Bava has been cultivating this international grape for years, which has shown to adapt very well to the calcareous soils of Bricco della Pieve.
Today, the Sauvignon for Relais Bianc grows in the calcareous soils around Bricco della Pieve, but the label features a stylized representation of the beautiful Italian garden of the Locanda del Sant’Uffizio in Cioccaro di Penango, not far from the winery, where the grapes were initially cultivated experimentally.
Thou Bianc Piemonte DOC Chardonnay 2023
The white tuff – thou bianc – of Cocconato is the cradle of the Chardonnay grapes cultivated by Bava in the east-facing lands of the historic and iconic Pieve vineyard, just below the village.
The label features the symmetrical motif of a cornucopia of fruits and flowers from a 1722 plaster ceiling at Casa Brina, the historic residence of the Bava family in Cocconato. Ornamental plaster ceilings are a recurring element in ancient Monferrato buildings, often depicting floral motifs and local herbs, as well as religious symbols and scenes of agricultural life. Plaster is also an easily accessible element on the hills of Cocconato, with nearby quarries still in existence.
Cor de Chasse Gavi DOCG from the Municipality of Gavi 2023
A brass wind instrument traditionally used during hunting expeditions, the Cor de Chasse is distinguished by its circular shape and powerful, bright sound. The sound of the Cor de Chasse is brilliant, strong, and clear, capable of transmitting signals over long distances: this is why it was chosen to symbolize Bava’s Gavi, which the company has been producing for over 50 harvests.
Langhe DOC Nebbiolo 2022
The Bava farmhouse is located among the vineyards of the Scarrone cru in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo area. Here, in the 1980s, the old farmhouse, the only one within the Scarrone cru, was renovated, and its cellars were dedicated to the production and aging of Langhe Nebbiolo and Barolo wines. The grapes come from the five hectares of vineyards surrounding the farmhouse.
The new label places the colorful farmhouse and vineyard rows at the heart of the profile of the village of Castiglione Falletto, recognizable by its roofs and the characteristic tower of its castle.
Rosingana Piemonte DOC Albarossa 2022
Albarossa is a Piedmontese grape variety obtained from a cross between Nebbiolo di Dronero (Chatus) and Barbera, created in 1938 by Professor Giovanni Dalmasso, who sought new varieties combining the elegance of Nebbiolo with the freshness of Barbera. By crossing these two grapes, Dalmasso found many different clones, but only the one called “xv/31” displayed the superior qualities that met his expectations. This variety was later renamed with the more romantic name of Albarossa. In the last fifteen years, Albarossa has seen its first true spread with new vineyards, increasingly frequent varietal vinifications, and the recognition of controlled designation of origin. Bava also believed in the grape and, since 2008, has been producing this intense and fruity Albarossa from our Cocconato vineyard. Rosingana is the mid-hill that gently slopes from the Pieve di Cocconato farmhouse towards the meadows of Marcellina. These are warm vineyards, southwest-facing, with fairly fertile clay soils that produce the most profound, colorful, and structured wines of the company.
The label features the ancient millstone found several years ago in the vineyard, with its characteristic round shape and central square hole through which the axle passed: it seemed the perfect representation of squaring the circle, just as it happens with Nebbiolo and Barbera.
